I think that the film is quite bittersweet, as it's Tom who gets wrapped up in his own vision of Summer, that isn't the real Summer. That's why in a way, he goes from liking her particularities at the beginning to clearly hating them at the end. I think she likes him but without the same fever and urgency he manifested towards her. Like, the minute he first laid his eyes on her, he was hooked and tried to make her like him so terribly, and so during the whole course of the film, he's always too much ahead while she toys with his feelings too! Claudia, you have to tell me what you thought of Purple Rose of Cairo, I'm really looking forward to your opinion on it (and fingers crossed you'll like it)! xoxoFoulhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01884465869755720069noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-644541939534301073.post-72200023035325313822013-06-06T15:20:43.036-07:002013-06-06T15:20:43.036-07:00It is interesting to see the male perspective in a...It is interesting to see the male perspective in a romcom for a change. It is all too often from the female's perspective. But this film shows that men get hurt too. I like that even though Summer didn't want a relationship and wasn't as into Tom as he was to her, it was good to see at the end of the film that she too was saddened that things didn't work out. Definitely the romcom genre is relying on boring formulas, plain dialogue, and worst of all leads with no chemistry! I really enjoyed 27 Dresses too. No I haven't seen those two Cusack pictures, I'll look out for them! This sunny weather is wonderful, hope you're enjoying it too! xxxTheClaudhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09658904647427839196noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-644541939534301073.post-82050124640935605212013-06-06T02:49:32.785-07:002013-06-06T02:49:32.785-07:00Great review Claudia! Haven't seen that movie ...Great review Claudia! Haven't seen that movie in 3 years, after its theatrical release. I agree with every word you say, but making a romantic comedy from a male POV is more grounded in reality don't you think? I believe romantic comedies are dead because they're too reliant on formula, awful dialogues and situations and actors with no chemistry whatsoever, but there always emerges a little miracle to tell me wrong! I wish this new decade will offer us a great romantic comedy that won't need to reference its elders but will stand out on its own! By the way, what do you think of "High Fidelity" and "Say Anything", both with John Cusack? Have a lovely sunny day! xoxoFoulhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01884465869755720069noreply@blogger.com
